85% believe Panama justice unequal
EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT of 1,221 thousand respondents in a Quantix Panama, SA survey commissioned by La Prensa believe that the law is not equal for everyone.
The results published Wednesday June 26 in the Pulse of the Nation supplement, revealed that people see that the biggest beneficiaries of justice are the rich and powerful.
When those who said that the law is not equal for all were asked who benefits in the justice system, 59% answered that "the rich" and 33% said "friends of the government." 4% answered that "officials", 2% "ordinary citizens" and 1% "to the poor".
La Prensa commented “Equality before the law, the essential principle of democracy, is enshrined in the Constitution as one of the fundamental guarantees.”
