Another independent running for office
THE CALL from some political observers for more “independent candidates during the 2014 elections is being reflected in a number of races.
There will be two independents vying to replace Ricardo Martinelli as president, at least one independent running for the Panama mayoralty seat and now the mayor of Chitre has abandoned party politics.
Mayor Manuel Solis, who is also the president of the Panama Mayor's Association, has resigned from the Panameñista party. He said he will run as an independent candidate in 2014.
He made the decision because he felt that the needs of the people were being hurt by the partisan politics in the country, and he denied having any interest in joining the ruling CD.
