Martinelli not ready to relinquish power – opponent

PRESIDENT, Ricardo Martinelli, is not ready to hand over power said  a Popular Party Vice President. on Wednesday June 12.

Teresita Arias Yániz  made the statment in in an interview with Flor Mizrachi on Radio Panama.

"The use and abuse of power" by the head of state suggests that he is not prepared to relinquish power even if it means bypassing the Constitution " she said.
In her opinion, the biggest mistake of Martinelli has been "corrupting, prostituting and weakening the three organs of the State", in addition to cases of corruption, cost overruns and nepotism.
"The popular mandate is not a blank check that you put on the presidential sash and sit in the presidential chair at the Palacio de las Garzas become a petty monarch. What we've been seeing with this government is an abuse of that power, the misinterpretation of the mandate of the polls."
On conversations being conducted by the PP with members of the Panamenista Party, the opposition leader said they are well advanced and she is confident that the proposals they are working on are supported by the country.
She said that the goal is an alliance towards the 2014 general elections in which they can look for the best men and women of both parties, full of reason and hope of both parties to build a better country.
