57 transit firings called political
AT LEAST 57 transit employees were fired on Thursday June 6 for what a union leader calls “political" reasons.
Alfredo Berrocal leader of the National Federation of Public Servants (FENASEP) said the CD members among those who lost their jobs were fingered because they did not participate in the CD collective event, held last May 12.
Reports appeared at the time that all government employees were ordered to attend to mark the celebration of Martinelli’s CD ruling party third anniversary of ascending to power. rom the Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT), as reported this Friday, June 7,
Berrocal said dismissals of PRD members related to those who had voted in the the primaries held on June 2.
The Transit Authority said the redundancies had nothing to do with political situations and resulted from several complaints submitted against some officials for alleged malpractice. Investigations were carried out which led to the truth of the allegations and the consequent dismissal of some officials.
The ATTT did not specify the exact number of redundancies and invited those concerned to apply for reconsideration within a period of five working days.
Berrocal said some actions have begun , such as reporting the case to the International Labour Organization, in addition to a walk scheduled on June 12 on the Cinta Costera. to be called "The path of shame.”
