Former education minister gets 3 years jail

A FORMER Minister of Education in Panama, has been sentenced to three years in jail for embezzlement.

Belgis Castro was sentenced along with five others by the 16th criminal court on Friday May 24. They were accused of embezzlement by the awarding of contracts for the removal of fiberglass rom Panama schools this for a total of $153 000.

Castro faces another seven processes for irregularities in the awarding of contracts in schools in the provinces of Panama, Colon, Chiriqui and Veraguas.
The investigation began in 2008.
