Electricity rationing ahead?

The delay in the start of the rainy season, has forced the National Dispatch Centre to declare a state of alert on energy rationing in Panama.

The alert is because the analysis for long-term planning reveals a deficit of more than 5% for the next 15 weeks. "The warning appears in a note sent on April 26 by the Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica, S.A. to the administrator of the National Authority of Public Services, Zelmar Rodriguez, says CentralAmerica Data. ‘
The DNC is launching this warning so that the relevant authorities can take measures to avoid power rationing across the country. "The delay in the start of the rainy season causes low hydrology and less demonstrated real power of the units associated with hydroelectric river plants, leading to the uncertainty of having total capacity of these plants," says the note .
