53 earthquakes in Chiriqui this year

CHIRIQUI Province recorded its 53rd earthquake of the year at 9.48 am on Monday, April 22.

It was the latest of six quakes registered in the province since Saturday April 20, says  the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.
The most recent seismic event had a magnitude of 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale and was located 58 miles southwest of New Haven, Baru district.
On Saturday, the first of the weekend earthquakes was registered at 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale. It occurred at 2:56 a.m.
Abelardo Serrano, regional director of the National Civil Protection System, said most of the earthquakes on the weekend originated in the Panama fracture zone.
