BOXING: Panama wins one loses two titles

PANAMA, with its small population has pulled more than it weight in the boxing world over the years and on Saturday, April 20 added one more belt to an already long list.

 But it was a bittersweet night at the Roberto Duran Arena where a marathon boxing event went on into the early hours of Sunday with three local golden hopes each looking for a title.
In the end only Luis El Nica Concepcion left the ring with a silver belt beating Colombian fighter Anuar Salas in the flyweight (112 lbs) event.
Concepcion came out with his characteristic aggressive style and floored his opponent with his first assault. The Colombian fought back and, put Conception on the canvas in the third round. But El Nica continued to dominate and in the sixth round put Salas down three times and the referee stopped the fight at 2 minutes 36 seconds. TKO.
The silver title represents an important step for a chance for the world crown.
In the other main event of the night, the Jamaican Alicia Ashley Chantall Panama defeated Martinez by unanimous decision.
Mexican star Robinson Castellanos beat local hero Celestino Caballero, in a split decision to retain his World Boxing Council featherweight (126 pounds) title.
