Panama’s Holy Week death toll
By noon on Saturday, March 30, At least four people had died during Holy Week, including three who drowned.
Emergency officials reported that Luis Mitchell, 18, died during an evangelical group outing Friday at Palenque Beach in Colón. Witnesses said he was swept out to sea by a wave.
Another youth died in Monte Lirio, in the Darién, while fishing.
On Holy Thursday, José Santos drowned while trying to cross a river in the province of Bocas del Toro.
According to press reports, Santos, 60, was swept away by the current.
There was also a homicide in the Darién, but there were no details about the incident.
The Transit agency, ATTT, said there had been 34 accidents reported, with nine injuries.
