Panama beats Honduras 2-0 to keep World Cup dream alive
Panama’s World Cup hopes came back to life on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 defeat of Honduras. in Panama City.
Panama scored in the opening moments of the game and then added a goal by Blas Pérez in the 74th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Panama desperately needed a win to keep its hopes of qualifying for the finals of the World Cup alive. It tied its first two games against Jamaica and Costa Rica.
Luis Tejada scored Panama's first goal.
Honduras had been leading the group with a win over the United States and a tie with Mexico.
Three teams from the group will qualify directly for the World Cup, and another will qualify for a playoff against New Zealand for the final spot.
