Second shot at high rise development on Causeway

A second attempt to get approval for a development that would include high rise towers and luxury homes on the Amador Causeway has been launched by Maritime City, SA.

The company that aims create a 36.8 hectare landfill and has filed for with National Environmental Authority (ANAM) the environmental impact assessment (EIA) category II, to allow development of the project, adjacent to a planned  Conference Center.
The relavent documents were sent to ANAM on January 18.
The first application was in June 2011, but the company voluntarily withdrew the request when La Prensa revealed the designs and details of the work, exposing a controversial residential development in an area projected for the development of tourism projects. The revelations led to friction within the Government.
Maritime City proposed building luxury residential towers, and a marina and requested from the State the first right to purchase the earlier landfill in Amador.
Rafael Barcenas, promoter Maritime City, told La Prensa "… The obstacle before was the buildings. It is a simple concession for simple marina ".
But in the filings with Anam the towers and layout of 60 lots for luxury homes still stand says La Prensa.
The approval of the EIA would be the first major step to achieving the company’s ambitions. They would then need to apply to the Panama Maritime Authority for permission to use the seabed. (That permission was granted to the island development off Punta Pacifica where luxury homes will be built ).
