Free travel on Panama’s North and South corridors from December19 through 24, will reduce traffic congestion in the capital by 30%.
The forecast came from Vega Ventura director of the Transit Authority on Monday, December 17.
The measure approved by the Cabinet Council on December 11, envisages the transfer, by the Government, to the National Highway Company (ENA) a total of $2.760 million for the free use of the two expressways for six days.
Vega also touched on previous statements to La Prensa on anti-traffic snarl measures which began this month to ease the jams exacerbated by increased seasonal commercial activity.
The official explained that freight transportation has been restricted from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm, and 70 traffic policemen are on duty at 70 key points in the city to speed traffic during peak hours.
Surveillance has been strengthened at the entrances and exits of malls to expedite the flow of traffic on the roads surrounding them.
