Little change in Panama corruption rating
Ruled by a party that promised change, Panama has remained in about the same position in an international survey on corruption released on Wednesday, December 5.
The survey, compiled by Transparency International, showed Panama scoring 38 out of 100, placing it around the middle of countries from Latin America.
Angélica Maytín, of Transparency International Panama,, said that Panama effectively scored 33 and 36 in previous surveys, so this year's score was a slight improvement.
Countries such as El Salvador, Jamaica and Peru have a score similar to Panama. The best rated countries in the Americas include Canada, the United States, Chile, and Paraguay.
According to Maytin, there is still the perception of corruption in the country because there is no certainty of punishment.
The government has also failed to deliver on its promise of reducing corruption
