Lawyers call for speedy replacement process for Supreme Court Judge

The Lawyers Movement Executive is pushing for an early opening of the period of notice for the election judge of a judge the Supreme Court to replace , Aníbal Salas, whose term expires on December 31.

According to the group, the action " will comply with the public consultation process, so that the applications are submitted, and opinions, proposals or suggestions from citizens and social organizations for the election of the next judge of the Second Criminal Bench".
They also urged the Executive as a matter of urgency, to exercise the power to appoint the magistrate concerned with "equal or higher level of transparency"
The movement warned called for vigilance that the act " will constitute an example of respect for the independence of the branches of government ."
President Ricardo Martinelli has said that the National Assembly will convene a special session to, among other things, ratify the new justice.
