Transexuals need surgery to change identity card

Six men in Panama have managed to obtain woman identity cards after the authorities ascertained that they have undergone sex reassignment surgery.

The information comes from the Birth Registration authority. The change in their identity is protected by Law No. 31 of 2006, but many other transsexuals cannot get revised identity cards, without proof of surgery, says La Prensa
