Assembly president to treat journalists as ladies

Journalists will be treated as a “ladies” by the President of the National Assembly, Sergio Gálvez after an incident with a radio reporter.

Gálvez has been widely condemned for striking a radio journalist José Agustín Del Mar from Radio Panama, with documents he was holding during a media interview. He has promised to mend his ways, and treat them like ladies.
La Prensa commented that it is not the first time a public figure has assaulted a journalist. In August this year, the government deputy for Democratic Change (CD), Carlos Afu, also launched a slapped FOX Report journalist, Jose Garibaldi, during an investigation being undertaken by the Electoral Court in Los Santos.
In recent months, freedom of expression in Panama has worsened because of constant pressure and threats of current government officials against journalists, going about their work, according to the country's journalists', says La Prensa.
Earlier in the year Predident  Ricardo Martinelli publicly berated a journalist who has previously had a drug addiction but was now clean and journalists have been the subject of goveernment attack ads.
