One child dead two injured as school wall collapses

An investigation has been opened into the construction of a Panama school wall that collapsed killing one child and injuring two on Thursday September 4.

Messages of condolence came from Education Minister, Lucy Molinar who promised a full investigation and full support for the family of the child who died at the El Japon school in La Loceria, when the wall standing near an area dedicated to civic events collapsed.
President Ricardo Martinelli lamented the loss of the child, but said that we will have to wait for a full report on the cause of the accident.
Panama’s mayor, Roxana Mendez reported that inspectors of the Directorate Works and Buildings will give support in the research t to determine the causes that led to the tragedy and the Technological University was assigned by the Deputy Attorney General to make assessments.
The civil defense authority, Sinaproc ordered the evacuation of the school, and there will be no classes on Friday.
Meanwhile a group of parents calling for the presence of the Minister of Education, and the firing of the school principal, closed the Tumba Muerto road, opposite Plaza Edison. The protest, which began at 11 am caused major traffic congestion.
