Journalists lose appeal against award to judge

Journalists Jean Marcel Chery, and Gustavo Aparicio lost their appeal against a civil judgment ordering the payment of $20,000 following a lawsuit filed in 2005 by former judge of the Supreme Court Winston Spadafora.

The opinion, of Judge Carlos Raul Trujillo, upheld a May 2009 judgment of the civil Twelfth Court.

Santiago Fascetto Epasa Group CEO, branded the ruling as an attack on press freedom.
 Chery-current editor of the newspaper El Siglo– considered  the judgment  “absurd”.
