Electoral change law forced through
After 15 hours of often acrimonious discussion, the majority Democratic Change party (CD) and its allies forced through the changes to the electoral system that it had initiated
With the backing of the Molirena party the second reading of Bill No. 508, amending the electoral code was passed amid complaints about non-compliance with the rules of procedure and threats that the proposedchanges ould be taken to the Supreme Court. The reforms have been challenged by the opposition, civil society, members of the Front for Democracy because the draft agreement on the National Commission on Electoral Reform that sat for 11 months was discarded and there was no argument or first debate in the Committee of Government.
