Politics the art of good service – Archbishop

The leader of the Catholic Church in Panama has returned to his theme that  the job of politicians is to serve  … all the people

Archbishop Jose Domingo Ulloa, said on Sunday that it is necessary to comprehend the concept of democracy and politics . According to Ulloa, a lack of understanding of these concepts would be failing the country.
ON TVN’s Channel 2 program "Dialogue" he said that "politics is the art of good service." It is the best that can be said. Therefore, those who aspire to be politicians should serve the common good of all. "Democracy is not only casting a vote in the general election, he said. Citizens should follow the projects promised or undertaken. The archbishop's statements come in the midst of the National Assembly discussion of electoral reforms being pushed by the ruling Democratic Change party. During the past week there were violent clashes between groups for and against the electoral changes and marathon sessions of 14 to 16 hours in the National Assembly. The leader of the Assembly called in additional police reinforcements and the discussions were closed to the general public.
