Water problems blamed on electrical supply

The lack of potable (drinking) water in various parts of the country, is not due to negligence, but the lack of electricity says the head of Panama’s water authority.

According to Abdiel Cano, director of the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan), the shortage is not a product of neglect, poor design or lack of foresight on the part of the institution  but  “the lack of electric power, putting all systems out of service".

The statements were made after a meeting held with  Danna Herrick, the executive secretary of the National Development Council (Conades),  and Presidency Minister, Roberto Henriquez.
In Panama city a $280 million project to expand and improve a sustainable water and sewage system aims to benefit some 600,000 people.
An aqueduct system from the main highway in Darien has also been completed and is about to be launched.
