Metro bus project extended to late 2013

The completion of the introduction of the Metro Bus project has been moved to the end of 2013.
In what seems to be his role as apologist for previous announcements by his predecessor, Minister of the Presidency, Roberto Henriquez seems to be taking a more realistic approach.

He said on Telmetro Report Thursday August 17, that by the end of 2013 the new buses will be covering all the major routes and they will have solved the issue of internal routes He acknowledged that there are delays especially with the construction of bus stops. "We will recover over time," he added.

The implementation of a new bus service was first mooted by the previous government and bids were asked for in late 1908. The initial submissions were contested, and while the confusion was being sorted out, the government changed.
Then followed a series of optimistic forecasts and promises from Peter Papadimitriu, and widespread protests from the user public over long waiting periods for buses, and confusion over who compensation for owners of diablos rojos, with reports that some owners had been paid twice, while others were still waiting. Some owners who had received compensation continued to operate on some routes in competition with the Metro Buses.
There have also been regular reports that many of the bus drivers also operate taxis which they leave at Metro bus depots before checking in for a day’s work, and then returning to operate a taxi, a move condemned by road safety experts
