Job security law a shield for party appointees – Opposition

A bill seeking to  give job security to Panama government employees, is really a shield to protect appointments of Democratic Change (CD) party faithful says the opposition.

They claim that the bill that will protect the jobs of  192,000 workers is a "shield" for the more than 35 000 appointments of public servants made by  Democratic Change in three years in office.

Opposition deputy Leandro Avila ( PRD) said that the proposal is contradictory, because when the CD came to power in 2009, it ignored the Civil Service Law.

Rep. Joseph Blandon, Panamenista  said the proposal seeks to annul contests for the CD appointments in public service.

Alfredo Berrocal, secretary general of the Federation of Public Servants (FENASEP), said they are wary of the bill.
