The friendly skies of Panama and beyond

President, Ricardo Martinelli  who said he would not talk about politics after his confrontation with Vice President Juan Carlos Varela, has not been seen in public since May 12.

On May 14 he traveled to Trinidad and Tobago, two days later he was in New York, and on Saturday May 19 made a surprise visit to Munich, Germany to see the football final of the Champions League.

When La Prensa asked the Secretary of State's Luis Eduardo Camacho, for a response to the whereabouts of Martinelli he could not answer said the newspaper. Later he said “The trip to New York and the details above were duly reported in press releases from the Ministry of Communication of the State. 

BACKGROUND

On  May7  last year, the Ministry of Communication reported a private flight that carried the president, Ricardo Martinelli, and vice president Varela.

They went in with theirr children, said the Ministry of Communication, in a press release.

It was later learned that he went to London for the end of the football tournament. The trip was made amid strained relations that existed between Martinelli and Varela.

Days earlier, the ruler disappeared almost 12 days from public view. After meeting in Washington with President Barack Obama, the April 30, 2011 – Martinelli reappeared at a rally in La Siesta Tocumen to defend several officials accused of wrongdoing.

TRAVEL MUST BE REPORTED

The professor of the School of International Relations at the University of Panama Gondola Fermin said that the Presidency of the Republic has a duty to inform  onprivate trips, because you cannot leave the office for a day to see a football game .

"His inauguration as president of this country means that, wherever he moves he is the President of Panama. That does not change Now I own the 99 chain  and tomorrow I'm the President of the Republic … is totally wrong, "said Gondola.
