Indigenous protest against hydro development is tiny Minister
The Ngäbe-bugle, indigenous group protesting against the construction of the Barro Blanco Hydroelectric Project, is tiny says government minister Jorge Ricardo Fabrega, on Sunday, May 20.
Fabrega's statement came on Sunday, May 20 after the second day of indigenous confontation with riot police at the grounds of the Barro Blanco Hydroelectric Project.
According to Fabrega, "It is a tiny group that insists on stopping the project, which is out of the region and which is being built in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Panama."
Therefore, says the Minister “The protests are not justified. The government has fulfilled the agreement between the Executive, the Coalition for the Protection of Natural Resources and People's Rights and Ngäbe leader Silvia Carrera. "We have done absolutely everything that was agreed." … I cannot forbid them to continue with their actions, but actions outside the scope of the law will have to face the consequences”
