Panama has to handle bribery allegations for sake of democracy –Varela
Although an attorney in Naples is investigating bribery accusations,relating to Panama in the end it’s a problem for Panama to handle so "our democratic system can prevail." said Vice President Varela Wednesday.
He insisted that the Government needs to clarify the case and in the end justice must prevail he told CNN Spanish. He also accused former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of misleading the country. When Berlusconi's visited Panama he promised the donation of a hospital and patrol boats.But in the end some of it didn’t happen, said Varela.
On Wednesday, La Prensa carried a front page photo of President Martinelli,, Berlusconi, Valter Lavitola and Varela. A laughing Varela was clapping Lavitola on the back. Lavitola is the center of bribery allegations involving Martinelli, Roxana Mendes, mayor of Panama and government officials, that have been publicized around the world.
