Panama strip club owner held by police in Nicaragua
The owner of a Panama strip club allegedly feeing to Panama witha false identity, is sitting in a Nicaraguan police cell as investigations continue into the killing of famed Argentinian troubadour, Facundo Cabral.
Police in Managua, Nicaragua reported Friday that businessman Henry Fariñas remains detained "under the research process".
Fariñas, a show promoter, who owns strip clubs throughout Central America, including the Elite in Panama, was a key witness in the murder of Cabral on July 9 last year in the capital of Guatemala.
Cabral was killed by gunmen while traveling to the airport, with Fariñas, who was injured in the attack.
Managua deputy police chief, Francisco Diaz confirmed at a press conference that Fariñas remains in a cell in the Legal Directorate after being arrested at Sandino Airport in Managua on Thursday night.
"Yes, we are investigating Henry Farinas … In the coming days, a spokesman for the National Police will release the results of this investigative process," Diaz said, and gave no further details.
The police chief would not confirm media reports indicating that while capturing Fariñas the police had seized a plane and at least 10 vehicles owned by the promoter of shows.
Diaz said he can not delve into the case because it would hinder research. Fariñas wounded in the shootout that killed Cabral who was returning to Argentina after giving after giving a series of concerts in Guatemala.there.
Unofficially it has been suggested that the attack would have been a settling of accounts by the Costa Rican Alejandro Jimenez an alleged drug trafficker (aka "Palidejo").
Citing unofficial sources, the La Prensa (Nicaragua) said that the employer was attempting to travel to Panama with false identity and at the time of his arrest he pretended to be foreign.
