Metro subway costs jump $219 million

The  cost of building Panama’s Metro line has jumped $219 million according to an addendum signed last December.

The Secretariat of the Panama Metro Line One and the construction Consortium have introduced new components to the project.

The additions are, says La Prensa: two new stations (to be called Curundú, and Lotteria); the expansion of the diameter of the tunnel that will carry  the Metro train; a new configuration to reduce the waiting time of users on the stations; improvements in  design with new lobbies and entrances, as well as provisions for the environmental management plan for strengthening structures.

The relocation of utilities such as cables and pipelines along the line has called for another $50 million.

The consortium, comprising FCC Construction and Norberto Odebrecht awill now receive for this project $1.671 billion. The original contract was signed for $1.452 billion.

Investments for the line will be completed with the construction of patios and workshops, and provision of elevators and escalators, among other items. These contracts, will be auctioned this year, bringing the total to $1.880 billion.
