Buses west of Panama to stop service for 2 hours, Monday
Bus owners will stop service for two hours on Monday, March 19 on transport routes in the west of Panama as a first step to pressure the government to pay fuel subsidies.
The shuttle service between in Capira. Chorrera, Arriajan, Chame and San Carlos will be shut down between 12:00 and 2:00 pm. A spokesman for the transportistas said if their demands were not met other measures could follow.
The carriers have not reached an agreement with the Transport Authority (ATTT) over several demands including a subsidy increase of 15 cents in the ticket cost for students.
The proliferation of pirate buses is another problem concerning the carriers who claim that “They do what they please," while the authorities do nothing to stop the practice.
