Idaan director to face National Assembly to explain water problems
The director of Panama’s water and sewage authority (Idaan) has been called to appear before the National Assembly to explain continuing water irregularities.
The proposal to call Abdiel Cano was presented by Deputy Jose Luis Popi Varela, Panamenista, who said the director of Idaan must explain why the water is coming out of the taps with a bad taste and other problems currently being reported in various communities regarding water service, or lack of it. Varela said, there are areas that still lack of drinking water. These issues must be clarified by the official, said the deputy.
The Idaan director said last week that there is no problem regarding the water leaving the treatment plant. The problem, said Cano, may be related to leaks in the distribution network, since damage has been reported in several sectors from civil works taking place in the capital, particularly those related to the construction of Line One of the Metro and the road realignment program by the Ministry of Public Works.
