This year is a busy one for the Ancon Theatre Guild Guild.(TGA). With one successful play under its belt in January, the Guild is currently rehearsing for the February staging of its second performance in February.
Altogether there will be eight presentations this year, some of which are already listed in What's On.
Red, the winner of a basketful of TONYs in 2010 will be followed by another TONY achiever from a more distant era. A Raisin In The Sun picked up four Tony awards in 1959 only a few years after the founding of the TGA.
This was the play that catapulted Sidney Poitier to stardom.. The TGA adaptation is the story of a Latinofamily living in the South Side of Chicago in the early 1960’s. They struggle to survive economically and to overcome the bigotry against minorities that prevailed at the time. But they cherished dreams, hope and expectations that would change their individual and collective lives.
A Raisin In The Sun is adapted and directed by Carlos Williams and produced by Gale Cellucci. It will be showing February 16, 17, 18 and 23, 24, 25, 2012.
All performances start at 8:00 pm, preceded of course by the gathering of theatre aficionados near the patio bar.
In addition to its program of events at its theatrical home in Ancon, Steven Barnett will be directing a four night Murder Mystery Dinner Theaer part of the CanadaPLUS program of events for 2012.
