Carolina and Marta gear up for the big dig

“Carolina” the second giant boring machine  purchased in Germany for the Metro Subway project has arrived in Panama to join cousin  “Marta.”

Carolina is being transported in parts to the north trench located at the junction of VIa Fernandez de Cordoba and Simon Bolivar where she will be assembled to tunnel three miles, to the station at Iglesia del Carmen, where she will meet up with Marta.

Carolina’s assembly will take two months, and  it is estimated that she will start work in March. Marta will begin excavating in the southern trench in Albrook on Monday, January 23.
