Driver discomfort levels to escalate for two years

Panama drivers and public transit users have been warned to prepare for what the Transit Authority (ATTT) calls “two years of discomfort”.

To add to worries about spiraling inflation and street crime, and already jammed roads,  ATTT director Jorge Ricardo Fabrega, on Thursday, December 29 , told citizens to begin to change their habits when entering or leaving the city.

Fabrega’s statement  came  after an earlier announcement  of the closure of two lanes of traffic  on the Bridge of the Americas starting  January 3. The lanes will be closed for $86 million repair work on the infrastructure.

On TVN Telemetro Reports  Fabregacalled on  citizens to "begin to change their habits and use the Centennial Bridge," which has faced its own disruption problems for most of the year.

Fabrega added, "The impact of the works that the National Government is doing improve the whole road realignment plan will mean two years of discomfort."  But in the end  he said "we will have solved the problem of circulation in the metropolitan area."
