Striking medical staff awaiting government response to counterproposals
Striking doctors and medical workers are still awaiting a response from the government to counterproposals to the government’s “return to work” with no reprisals.
The unions in on strike since last October have not received any response to the counterproposal said the leader of the Association of Employees of the Social Security Fund, Priscilla Vasquez. She told Telemetro Reports that the doctors and support staff have mot been called to any meetings with the authorities although they are willing to sit down and negotiate this weekend to reach an agreement.
But for now, the work stoppage, in force since October, will continue. said Vasquez. Government spokesmen have said that there will be no reprisals against striking staff opposed to Bill 349 which created the Public- Private Partnership (PPP).
On Friday demonstrations against the PPP continued on the campus of Santo Tomas Hospital, on Avenida Balboa.
