Man with murder record held in ex-governor murder inquiry

A  man with a criminal record including murder and theft  has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the former governor of Cocle.

Gamal Gameth Gordon Vasquez, 36, who lives in Santa Ana  was identified   in a line up on Monday  and was taken before the Court of Guarantees of Cocle, which ruled the legality of his pretrial detention on suspicion of murder of Darío Fernández the  former governor of the province on last Sunday.

Fernandez was gunned down in front of his home when he arrived with his son.
The judge accepted the new standards implemented  with the introduction of the adversarial criminal justice system and the defendant  can be held for  six months, so that the Public Ministry can investigate and present evidence.
It was reported that the defendant was empoyed on  casual work in the "100 to 70"  program of the Ministry of Social Development.
