No reinstatement of rank or pay for police chief ordered by courts
Panama's police chief, Gustavo Perez man not be getting the windfall back pay he and the Justice Minister announced on the weekend, and if he does get it, another pair of hands will be reaching our for a similar deal.
The Criminal Court ruling in 2010 which dismissed the case against Perez, who had been investigated for alleged illegal activates during the US invasion in 1990, made no reinstatement order or payment of back wages.
This says La Prensa conflicts with assertions made on Saturday, by Perez himself.
Perez and Ocálagan, both former members of the defunct Defense Forces, were dismissed in 1990 for allegedly planning the kidnapping of American tourists during the invasion.
After Security Minister, Jose Raul Mulino announced the reinstatement of Perez as a lieutenant with $123,000 for 21 years back pay, David Ocálagan announced that he would ask for the same benefits.
Perez and Ocálagan, both former members of the defunct Defense Forces, were dismissed in 1990 for allegedly planning the kidnapping of American tourists during the invasion.
But according to lawyers, the only way for the reinstatement of staff is through the Administrative Chamber of the Court, in whose records, however, there is no ruling in favor of Perez.
