Air station planned for land scandal area
The troubled community of Juan Hombrón, in the eye of a storm over the granting of free land titles to corporations, will be the home of a new naval air station.
The announcement was made Saturday, November 5, by Security Minister, Jose Raul Mulino who said that the plans are already done and the station will be built on land owned by the town council of Juan Hombrón, out of the 54 hectares allocated for free to 12 corporations under a questionable process by the National Land Management Authority (Anati ).
The purpose of the base will be to combat illegal fishing, drug trafficking and other high profile crimes, said the minister.
Until at least January of this this year nothing was known about the Government's intention to build there.
Other bases will be located in Metetí, Darien, on the island of Coiba, Veraguas, in Mensabe, Los Santos, and Punta Coco, in the Las Perlas.
