KPC bacteria surfaces in another section of Panama Hospital

The KPC bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase)  has spread to another section of Panama’s Social Security (CSS) hospital.

Four new patients have been  identified  with the bacteria in the critical service area of the Emergency department of the  Arnulfo Arias Madrid hospital. Over 50 patient have already died in the ICU.

Initially, the presence of bacteria KPC was limited to the intensive care ward.

After the new positive patients were identified they were isolated, and other patients are being tested.  Strict controls have been introduced for visiting family members.
