RATINGS: Panama up U.S. down
While the United States has lost its triple A rating for the first time, and the world’s most powerful economy is stuck in the economic doldrums Panama continues to climb.
The blow to the U.S. came on Friday from Standard and Poor’s. The day before, Moody’s agency moved Panama’s risk rating from “Stable” to “Positive” within the category of investment grade Baa3 within the category of investment grade Baa3 because of continued economic dynamism, the positive outlook for medium term growth and a solid balance sheet.
Standard & Poor's gave the same reading a couple of weeks ago, while Fitch Ratings raised its rating from BBB-to BBB in June.
