Call for resignation of garbage collection chief
Only days after Henry Ho the head of the garbage collection authority AAUD announced that Panama’s garbage collection problem was solved, critics hit back.
Members of the Municipal Council Tuesday lashed out against HO, over problems of garbage collection in December 24, where this year’s first dengue death was recorded.
At Tuesday's session on councilors voiced their concerns about the about the clear accumulation of trash in the area.
Councilor Quibian Panay said that it is possible that the AAUD , with a budget of $80 million, has not solved the waste problem, as promised before the entity was created.
Nelson Vergara Councilor for December 24, , said that Ho is not fulfilling his duty. “If you do not have the capacity to manage the Cleaning Authority it is best to resign. Enough of marginalizing poor people," he said.
Vergara recalled the death of an eight year old from hemorrhagic dengue and said the lack of garbage collection was a factor, as in the area there are pockets of infestation of the mosquito Aedes aegypti.
The deputies asked for and "urgent hearing" of Ho before the City Council.
On the same day afternoon the Ho mourned the death of a child from dengue and called on the community to prevent the accumulation of garbage.
