Insider’s plans for Amador the missing link in rush to extend Cinta Costera.
Less than 48 hours after opponents of the plan announced alternatives to the Cinta Costera extension to benefit underprivileged residents of Santa Ana and Chorillo, La Prensa uncovered a “pharaohonic” real estate project to be built in Amador.
The third phase of the Cinta Costera on refill land around Casco Viejo, would lead directly to Amador. Opponents describe the revelations as the missing link in the government's obession to build the road in spite of alternate proposals.
The project, on refill land, previously declared illegal,.was created by friends of President Ricardo Martinelli says La Prensa.
The land was seized from Jean Figali, currently under house arrest and awaiting trial on money laundering charges. The high profile takeover was led by President Martinelli within days of his lection, photographed wielding a sledgehammer to knock down the fences around the illegal landfill.
The National Land Authority is leading a change to the law, allowing for the development of the 36 hectares of “Reverted Properties.”
This would open the door, says La Prensa for the purchase of the landfill on the seabed and to build the causeway following the request made by the Maritime City company, owned by businessman Rafael Boli Barcenas, a friend of President Ricardo Martinelli. It was previously turned down by Finance and Economy Minister, Alberto Vallarino,
At the same time the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) is supporting the development called Amador City Marina.
The manager, Roberto Linares, a close friend of the president, says the "project is a beauty." The promoter of the work revealed that AMP has helped to make the necessary corrections so they can finally get back the use of the landfill over seawater.
The ambitious project, which would have at least 16 coated glass towers, a marina, convention center and retail stores , has revealed the internal divisions of the government over the controversial issue of concessions granted by the state.
On June 9, Vallarino an ally of the President- formally said it was impossible to give Maritime City the first option on the landfill over seabed because it would be unconstitutional. But the issue remains open.
