Enrichment seen as thriving as Martinelli campaign slogan boomerangs
“They [politicians] arrive with empty pockets and leave millionaires" was the campaign slogan of Ricardo Martinelli before he won the presidency in 2009.

His complaint, that there were politicians who lived in opulence, has now become a boomerang says La Prensa as seven out of ten Panamanians say that among politicians there are those who are enriching themselves improperly.
The figures come from the latest Unimer public opinion poll commissioned by La Prensa and held acrossthe country, between June 23 and 27 with a margin of error of 2.8%.
Only 25% of respondents believe that corruption in Panama has declined, while 28% believed it to have increased, and 44.4% are convinced that corruption has remained the same in the two years the government has been in office.
