Martinelli appointment resigns before taking office

Fifteen days after his surprise appointment as the attorney of Auditors, while facing criminal charges, William Parodi has resigned the post he never took.

He is the latest in a long line of Martinelli appointments  to fall upon his sword while under a cloud. Others include a Supreme Court Judge, the head of a committee reviewing the constitution and an Attorney General.

Two others to lose their positions were the former tourism manager and the head of immigration

Parodi's resignation was announced on Thursday, June 29  but he will retain his post as chief prosecutor of the Attorney General. He is on leave from the post.

Parodi, who was appointed June 14, submitted his resignation in a letter to President Ricardo Martinelli. For  personal and professional," reasons.
Parodi faces three charges in the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court.

More changes are expected in  early July, with the rumor mill in full swing, with fingers even pointing to Panama’s mayor Bosco Vallarino whose problem plagued term in office has raised concerns throughout the city. Vallarino was not appointed, but elected after stories circulated that his opponent was receiving millions of dollars from pyramid artist David Murcia Guzman.

The stories were later perceived as perhaps part of a dirty tricks program, but Panama voted for Vallarino.

Murcia’s name also appears in the denunciations against Parodi.
