Minister calls on Cinta Costera expansion opponents to be part of solution

Panama’s Minister of Public Works, Federico Suarez, held out  what seemed like an olive branch to opponents of the third phase of the Cinta Costera  inviting them to become  part of the solution.

Federico Suarez, speaking on Telemetro Telephone reports said:  “As a country we're not going against our national heritage. We we will preserve and nurture it as  something of which all Panamanians are proud."

He said that Panama  had  finished presenting to Unesco, documentation of options to develop the project and would receive advice from that organization on how to achieve it.

The minister said that Unesco called for constant interaction with Panama to stay informed about the route of  the project to be developed.
Suarez issued an invitation to opponents of the coastal strip,to become  part of the solution, because according to him,  they were influenced by news, showing that there is a chaotic situation.
"Let us show that we have grown and we can match up to first world countries with this work "he said.
Groups  in  San Felipe have opposed the project, believing it could endanger the status of Casco Viejo as a Unesco designated World Heritage Site.
