Saving Panama’s Cultural Heritage

The small army of warriors defending  the heritage of Casco Viejo under the AVACA (Casco Viejo Neighborhood and Friends Association) banner has produced a series of  illustrations to carry its message to the community that lies outside the old city, but shares its pride in being recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

The recognition is in danger because of the construction of the third phase of the Cinta Costera, which threatens to encircle the old city. Alternative plans have been submitted to the government, but have so far been ignored, and contracts  for work to begin have been made.

Avaca has members and supporters from  across the world, but more importantly needs support  within Panama.{jathumbnail off}

The first illustration carried the message “Panama Lost. How many schools could be built with the money being spent on Cinta 3?

The second shown here is easily understood. Even if you don’t speak Spanish.

Feel free to download the illustrations (there are more available) and distribute to whoever you  now whose voice might be heard in the corridors of government.
