Dead childs treatment delayed as help sought from healer”

An autopsy is being held to determine the cause of death of a six-year-old child whose arrival for hospital treatment was delayed because the parents sought the guidance of a “healer”.

The child died at the  Hospital Aquilino Tejeira in Coclesito, Colón where, according to reports, he was sent  after  being taken to a local health center, where his critical condition called for removal to the hospital. He died an hour after arriving due to a severe infection.

Hospital Medical Director Edwin Rojas said that the initial diagnosis is that the child died from general sepsis, but  an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the actual cause.

 The director said the child was treated by the parents, with the guidance of a healer before taking him to the hospital, a situation that could have caused a critical delay.
