WHAT THE PAPERS SAY: Governance by imposition

La Prensa, Panama, May 23

The Government has decided to pursue its project to build the third phase of the cinta costera , even if it costs  the city's Old Town its status as a world Historical Heritage site. The imposition is not new, as this is the style of governance.

And the list is long: the imposition of the so-called nine-in-one law (which then had to be withdrawn); imposed reforms to the Mining Code (on which it also had to backtrack);  imposing judges on us (one of which had to resign ) imposing an attorney general (who also was forced to resign); forcing us to share our country with a person   suspected of human rights crimes in Colombia.
And as if these abuses were not enough, it now seeks to impose a financial tower, a totally unnecessary work ; and with of the cinta costera threatening  the historical heritage of Casco Antiguo; trying to impose a  second electoral term which  endangers its own political alliance. Then the ruler says that what we have in the country is full democracy, ignoring the fact that he  has also imposed his own authoritarian style of government.
