Murcia awaits 9 year sentence in U.S.
The U.S. sentencing of the man with alleged links to high levels of Panama’s current administration during the presidential election campaign has been postponed.
The Monday, May 9, sentencing hearing of David Murcia Guzmán has been moved to May 23. says as spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Murcia’s attorney Miguel Angel Rodriguez announced on Friday, May 6 that a a plea bargain deal agreement has been reached with prosecutors for Murcia Guzman to serve nine years in a U.S. prison for money laundering.
Murcia Guzmán, “the king of pyramids” whose company DMG stole money through prepaid cards, is believed to have robbed at least $15 million In Panama alone from some 900 investors, has already received a 30 year sentence from a Colombian court before being extradited to the U.S. He still faces charges in Panama.
