Panama hoops player continues to shine in US Junior College games

A Panamanian basketball player will be competing for the second year in the US National Junior College Basketball Tournament.

Jonathan King , a former student at  Instituto Justo Arosemena,  has been playing collegiate basketball at East Mississippi Community College for the past two years. , and  is currently being recruited by several senior U.S. colleges

Jonathon at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds and  his brother Daniel (6-foot-8) have both played basketball for  Panama's national team.

For the second straight year, Jonathan and his EMCC teammates will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division Basketball National Championship in the state of Kansas (March 15-19).  

In the college program guide Jonathan is listed as:

#24 JONATHAN KING, 6-5, 210, sophomore, forward, Panama City, Panama… Being recruited by Sun Belt, Ohio Valley and Southland Conference schools… Named to 2010-11 All-NJCAA Region 23 Team… Also selected to this year's NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament Team… Made 2010-11 MACJC All-North Division Second Team… Averaging a double-double on the season, ranking fourth on the team in scoring (13.5 ppg) and standing among the top-15 rebounding leaders nationally (10.4 rpg)… Has recorded 13 double-doubles on the season and owns 18 career collegiate double-doubles… Shooting 55 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free-throw line… Averaging 4.1 offensive rebounds (110 total offensive boards in 27 games) per game on the year… His 6-foot-8 brother, Daniel King, played at Western Oklahoma State College. {jathumbnail off}

East Mississippi Community College "Lions" are ranked 12th in final NJCAA regular-season poll with a 25-3 overall record, under head coach Mark White

The team is  making its second straight appearance in the NJCAA Tournament after earning its first-ever tournament berth last year/ It  went 1-2 in last year's NJCAA Tournament, beating Brunswick (NC) before falling to Navarro (TX) and Northwest Florida State. The EMCC Lions are 52-10 over the last two seasons combined as back-to-back NJCAA Region 23 champions. Fourth-year EMCC head coach Mark White has received 2010-11 Coach of the Year honors for NJCAA Region 23 and the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC)… White owns a four-year career record of 80-35 (.696) at East Mississippi CC. He was previously an assistant coach at Mississippi State University of the Southeastern Conference.
