Panama traffic bedlam coming soon
Stand by for more traffic bedlam as work begins on Panama's metro subway line and, coinciding with the creation and building of new intersections and road realignments.
Public Works Minister, Federico Suarez, announced on Thursday (February 10) that the metro line construction will begin on Monday February 14.
At the same time the government will be calling for bids for work on the intersections to be built simultaneously.
Suarez said on TV that new traffic flow guidelines and maps will be published in the media and through the distribution of leaflets on the streets.
He said changes are due to the road network which has never been updated although the country has about 650,000 cars on the road of which 450 000 in the capital city.
Suárez emphasized that everyone should be preparing strategies on how to move within the city as the changes are announced.
Previous announcements have stressed that the next couple of years are not going to be good for drivers.
